Our Mission

The congregation is committed to Jesus Christ and to ministry in Christ’s name. To that end we will strive:

To respond to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit and to affirm the sacredness in all people.

To proclaim the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ to all people and to nurture them into full relatedness to God and God’s church.

To live in the presence of the Holy Spirit and to reflect God’s love and grace to all people.

To celebrate the goodness of our Creator God, to cherish and to delight in God’s creation, and to work for peace with justice among all people.

Our Temporary Pastor

In April 2025, Portland Ave. Presbyterian Church welcomed Rev. Whit
Malone as its new Temporary Pastor. Rev. Malone follows the Rev. Willa
Fae Williams who retired last year after 27 years of service to the church
and community.
Whit first moved to Louisville in 1980 to attend Louisville Presbyterian
Seminary. Following graduation, he served congregations in Louisville
(Highland and Springdale Presbyterian), Ames, IA., Hickory, NC., and
Banner Elk, NC. It was while serving Springdale Presbyterian Church that
he first connected with Portland Ave. Church.
After retiring in July 2024, Whit and his wife, Kris, returned to Louisville.
They have three grown daughters and two young grandaughters, all living
in North Carolina. Whit enjoys gardening, cycling, reading, and fixing up his
“fixer-upper.”
